Working to move you through to a brighter way of life.
There are many different schools of psychotherapy – from Freudian psychoanalysis to the currently popular Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I tend to work with solution focused and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, together with more modern approaches such as NLP, Psych-K and EMDR. I will often add alternative therapies into the mix to underpin the psychotherapy structure. This enables much faster resolution of issues. I will very often work with psychotherapy within hypnosis, which makes it far more effective and much faster.
During psychotherapy, we focus on the SOLUTION and HOW to overcome a problem, rather than on the problem itself. We will probably need to work on whatever triggered a problem in the first place - in other words, find the root cause - but this is not always the case. Sometimes, it is a matter of learning new skills and habits, then supporting that with positive belief work. Psychotherapy can provide a positive framework for moving forward, and should be seen as more than just a talking therapy.
Solution-Oriented and Strategic Psychotherapies look for solutions to problems (problems from the past or in the present), and work towards goals which you and I establish on the very first session. In this way, we can measure progress. Everyone has strengths and resources, and we can identify and use yours to good effect in resolving the situation.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) works with the connection between what we believe about ourselves, what we think, what we feel and how we ultimately behave. By learning more empowering cognitions (beliefs, thoughts), we can begin to break down old, unhelpful, reactions, create positive emotions and produce more appropriate behaviours. Supporting this with positive belief work and powerful visualisation techniques enhances the basic CBT concept. I work in line with the Ellis model of CBT known as REBT (Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy)
The Human Givens approach is based on the practical reality of what it is to be human. We all have basic needs, which must be met to maintain emotional wellbeing – for example, we all need to give and receive attention. This approach ensures you are getting your basic needs met in a healthy way.
